Don Smith in '08

...Don Smith is thirty-five years old, born in the U.S.A. and has always resided in our great nation. You know what that means presidential candidates ... according to our Constitution, he is eligible to be your Vice President.
Think of what he brings to your ticket: intelligence, smartass remarks and a lock on those elusive red-haired voters. Think of what it will mean for America's foreign policy to have a vice president who not only understands soccer but has actually played the game.
I'm talking to you Hillary! Barack -- we heard you're a WestHam fan ... John McCain, Don is Scottish, too, FYI. Mitt, you need a Methodist -- think of the religious diversity it will bring your candidacy! And if that's not enough, he has a beautiful wife and an adorable child. Think of the photo ops!

David Beckham's got nothing on Gavin Smith...

...For the record, it was Don that did the styling!

Up and running...

While the Packers season ended with a whimper, our blog is roaring back, thanks to a newly installed hard drive (you know I will be backing up regularly from now on). We took this movie of Gavin on the day Green Bay's Super Bowl hopes came to an end -- they can't say they didn't have one of the world's cutest fans, can they?

Sometimes fate is kind...

I have been saying for months, no make that more than a year, that I needed to back up my home laptop computer with some kind of external hard drive. It's where I store all of our family photos and what I use to write my freelance work.
About a week ago, the external hard drive I had FINALLY ordered arrived in the mail and I almost immediately copied my photo and movie folders over to it. Two days later, it appeared my internal hard drive on the laptop DIED. Kaput. How's that for a little luck?
I know what a goner hard drive looks like because it happened to me about 2 years ago -- just AFTER I completed and turned in a huge freelance writing project. It's hard to believe I've been lucky twice -- now I just have to figure out if it's worth replacing the hard drive again or giving up on this DELL machine. I've got a MAC desktop at work and have become a full convert away from PCs -- but finances dictate I may need to dream of a Macbook for a little while longer.

Gotta Dance...

Gavin has taken to demanding that the three of us "dance" from time to time. He's got his own distinctive style and I must say it reminds me of James Brown, Ed Grimely and Balki from "Perfect Strangers" all rolled into one.
Regardless of his influences, it's unbridled joy and we love it.

The Red Ball

Gavin got this red ball from his godfather, Jerry, for Christmas ... he loves it!

Brewmaster Don?

Don received an exciting gift for Christmas from his brother Chris and sister-in-law Kathy -- a home brewing kit from the Wine & Hop Shop in Madison.

The goods just arrived yesterday and Don is pretty stoked to give this a try -- one hitch is we have to collect beer bottles to put the home brew in, which means we are having to drink beer right now. I am doing my part to contribute to this project! I have no idea how this works but, if it turns out, some of you may benefit from it as well! We'll open up the comment section here for suggested names for Don's home brew...
