The Latest

Since Gavin has a head start on me -- having begun "school" last week -- he's got more to show for his efforts than I do, as you can see.
I made it through my first day today but was exhausted and considered it a major accomplishment to just get my e-mail set up and contemplate how to write an 80-word brief on Bo Ryan's pay raise.
I called to see how Gavin was doing at about 10:30 a.m. and was informed he was "painting" (something he did last week, too) so I decided I could get it together enough to soldier through the rest of the afternoon.
My co-workers are all very nice and no one batted an eye when I walked out the door at 4:45 to go and pick up the G-Man, for which I feel very lucky. He was so tired when we got home that we didn't have more than 30 minutes or so to play before it was time for him to hit the hay, but I have to say it's going well for just being at the the beginning of this journey.
I'll have something to show for it in the fall issue of On Wisconsin, so stay tuned...
Many, many thanks to all of you have called, e-mailed and just let me know you are thinking of me. It helps more than you know!

Trivia update

The Cakers finished 12th this year -- a pretty good showing in what is always a competitive contest. We hope to be back next year to help return to the Top Ten!

It's Trivia Time

It's trivia weekend in Stevens Point, and our team -- this year known as "The Cakers: An Inconvenient Truth" -- has gathered for the annual contest. Don and I are not making the trip up this year -- too much going on with job starting Monday -- but we are keeping our cell phones on in case we're needed for questions on soccer, baking or Broadway musicals. Actually, this year you could add "Elmo's World" to that list, too. Current standings show our team is in 13th place out of more than 400 teams with about 36 hours to go. Fire up Cakers!!!

Here's an article from USA TODAY about the contest, if you want to read up.

Update on the G-Man

Thanks to those who have called or written to ask about how Gavin is adjusting to day care (he had his first full day today).
I'll toss it over to his teacher, Erin, who was kind enough to send us this e-mail today:

Hi Jenny & Don,

I wanted to let you know how Gavin is doing today. He made an umbrella for art, played on the playground, ate lunch, took a long nap, and played with his friends. He had a wonderful day...it seems like he has been here for a long time! If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email or give me a call any time.

Take care,
Erin

It's so great to know he is doing well and has such wonderful and caring teachers. Let's hope his mommy does just as well when she starts work next Monday.

Big Monday for Gav (and his mommy)

Gavin starts tomorrow at the child care center where we'll have him attend as I return to work. I don't start my job until next Monday, he's going to spend this week getting acclimated to the place, going a couple half days and then working up to full days. Should we let them know what they're in for?

Postcards from Grayton Beach, FL

With winter rearing its ugly head once again here at home, I decided I would try to relive a few more moments from our spring break getaway last week by posting some more pics. Keep hope alive for Spring, it should show up sooner or later...
